La Prensa de Minnesota has proudly served the Latino community and the community at large since 1991.
La Prensa’s format has always incorporated local, national and international news, sports, education, health, arts and entertainment and offers classifieds and display advertising.
In 2006, with its merger with Latino Communications Network, La Prensa went through a unique transformation. Always partially bilingual, it went to a fully bilingual format with each article featuring a translation.
This format allows for a more complete understanding of La Prensa’s content by non-Spanish speakers; from the Anglo-American interested in Latin American politics, to a business owner curious about how to reach to the Latino community, to the roughly 33% of Latinos who do not speak Spanish in Minnesota.*
The content also changed as far as its emphasis and style, focusing on a more in-depth, more analytical and more local approach. La Prensa has a weekly circulation of 10,000 and is strategically distributed to over 250 Twin Cities locations.
La Prensa also reaches rural communities through libraries, social service agencies, churches and universities.
La Prensa de Minnesota has received numerous prestigious recognitions including: The National Federation of Hispanic Newspapers “Best Overall Design” in 1996 and 1999, “Best Community Writing” in 1998 and 1999 and “Best Cover Page Design” in 1999; as well as certificates of commendation by the State of Minnesota; the City of St. Paul, the City of Minneapolis, Community Media Award by Centro Legal, Inc, the Courage and Leadership Award by the Minnesota Hispanic Bar Association; and the Award of Excellence from the Minnesota Network Association.
La Prensa de Minnesota is currently a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, St. Paul Area Chamber of Commerce, National Federation of Hispanic Newspapers, National Association of Hispanic Journalists, Minnesota Newspaper Association, and Minnesota Minority Media Coalition.
